MENTORING VS COACHING

Posted by Lee Anne Bartlett on 5 October 2011
MENTORING VS COACHING

So what is the difference between having a Coach or a Mentor?

I personally feel that a mentor is someone that you look up to, you ask for advice on things and they are a wonderful role model. They are usually someone that has achieved something you want to achieve and they can help you along the way via friendship, support and ideas.

A Coach is someone who will go through more the detailed nuts and bolts of your ideas and thoughts and give your ideas and guidance and assist you through the whole process.

So how do you know if a Mentor or a Coach is what you need?

You would want a Coach if you want someone to hold your hand and help you through the process. Someone to be accountable to or to bounce ideas around.

A Mentor is more if you want someone to help guide you along the way. Someone whom you can follow their footsteps and learn how they achieved success.

Either way a Coach or a Mentor is a great idea, as having support and guidance on the journey really does help you get there quicker.

Would you prefer to have a Mentor or a Coach? Any why?

THE ROLLERCOASTER RIDE OF BUSINESS

THE ROLLERCOASTER RIDE OF BUSINESS

Being in business for yourself is never a smooth ride. No one ever had a straight up line road to success. Even though everyone’s journey is completely different, every journey had a bump or a few huge hills along the way.

A lot of people go into business for themselves because they see it as giving them freedom and the lifestyle they have always dreamt of, which in time it can and will. First of all though you have to put the time and effort in to build it up to that stage.

Having been in business myself now for the past 10 years, I have been on many rollercoasters and sometime the rollercoaster has even derailed. The most important thing to keep your business going in the forward direction is to 1. Ask for help if need and 2. Stay focused on the goal. Don’t let small or big obstacles get in your way... they may slow you down, but keep going and leave them behind. I don’t know of one successful person in the world that hasn’t had adversity to overcome before they achieved the goal.

What has been a small or a big obstacle that appeared on your road to success? What did you do to overcome it?

YOUR MINDSET

YOUR MINDSET

Your mindset plays a very important part in the outcome of your life. Whether you create success or whether you are still dreaming of it!

Your mind can sometimes be the exact reason why you didn’t achieve what it was you wanted. It can be the biggest stopper in your life. Why is this? We all have what are called limiting beliefs. A belief we take as being real because we have not seen any evidence to prove to us otherwise. Unless we work really hard to move past these limiting beliefs, we stay stuck in our current reality and don’t try overly hard to move toward our goals because they seem like too big of a dream.

The people that do create success and go out and get their goals are the ones that see the limiting belief and turn it into drive to make a new belief which is so much bigger than their current mind can conceive. Once it is achieved their limiting belief is then so much less limiting and a higher belief is established. After all – beliefs are just thoughts that you have thought over and over; your mind thence taking them to be real.

You are totally in control of your journey in life, and deserve to have the best one ever!

What are some limiting beliefs that you have come to on your journey? Did you let them stop you or did you push past and create a new belief?

DOES FEAR RUN YOUR LIFE

DOES FEAR RUN YOUR LIFE

Do you let fear run your life? Do you allow it to stop you from achieving those goals you have?

Fear can come in all different forms; the biggest one I see is Fear of Failure. It is so strong that some people would rather avoid failure than attempt Success.

Profoundly, it is but the smallest percent of people who are actually completely in control of their life and actions and will not let anything get in the way of achieving Success.

The most successful people in the world are also the people that have failed the most. They didn’t let the fear of failure get in their way.

What often makes the fear of failure worse is the feeling of regret you then get for not attempting success. The feeling of “What if I had only?”

But if you take the bull by the horns, laugh at the fear of failure and really look at it as, “well if I do fail, at least I gave it the best shot ever!” Or go even one better: if you fail the first time, think of another way to go for it that is better and keep going and going until such time as you are a success. That is what a successful person does.

What is something that you feared, pushed fear out of the way and attempted it anyway? Did you fail? Or Succeed?

WORK LIFE BALANCE

WORK LIFE BALANCE

Achieving work life balance is not the easiest, quickest thing to do. It can take a long time to work out exactly what that means for you. I personally think that Work/ Life Balance can only be achieved once you are in the place of Gratitude and Joy. Because once you are happy with your work, happy with your personal life and happy with your financial situation, the work life balance can be more of an organic thing. As the pressure and the hard work is more relaxed and you can switch off and really be open to spending quality time at home.

If you start a new business looking for Time Freedom, Flexibility and Work Life Balance, you cant expect this to happen for you the first day. It takes time to put the rungs on the ladder, once you have put the consistent time and effort needed, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of Work Life Balance.

Another key point to work life balance is to make sure you are very organised. I find that a very strong DMO (Daily Method of Operation) so having everything scheduled from personal to business. It means you can be structured and enjoy the things you want to. As long as you follow it of course.

Would love to hear your thoughts on Work/ Life Balance and what that means for you, and how you achieve it!
